Sand Dollar House

One of Austin’s most unique and storied homes. Located in Lakeway on the south shore of Lake Travis, the Sand Dollar House, aka the Mushroom House, frames some of the most captivating views on the lake. Built in 1979 by John Covert Watson, an Austin based architect who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright, during the construction of the Guggenheim Museum in NY.

In the 1970's, artist Eugenia Hunt commissioned Watson to design and build this masterpiece.  While the home served as her artist retreat for some time, it later became well known as a prized vacation home on Lake Travis.  The fact that the original structure and rooms have not been drastically altered is a celebration for the success of this organic modern home.
